Question by smb12: Where is the best place in Europe to study abroad?
I am a student in the U.S. currently studying abroad in Australia. I absolutely love it! I want to study abroad again next year in Europe. I plan on doing direct enrollment instead of going through a study abroad program because 1. study abroad programs tend to be expensive and 2. I think completely emerging myself into a country would be best for me. I am studying psychology, but I also need to take some science or language classes. I am trying to pick a city in Holland that would be good to study in or Germany or any other countries you may suggest! Any suggestions or help would be great!

Answer by roberta hersey
careers abroad are certainly an exciting thought, but you have to be really vigilant of the legislative implications, if you don’t effect your research right, there can be undesirable results! The resource in the box below has a lot of instruction on careers abroad, my pal stumbled upon it, now he is a barman in Tasmania!

Question by dco123: What study abroad programs in Europe are available for incoming college freshmen?
I am a spring admit student at the University of Southern California (USC’s version of the wait list). As a spring admit, no housing or classes are offered at USC until January. Thus I’m interested in studying abroad for a semester. However, many study abroad programs require one semester if not more time at your respective American university.

Best answer:

Answer by Amber Marie
That is a program requirement, but also a school one, as it is your school that has to accept those credits back. You are also very late for studying abroad, you would have to get a VISA, which can take months, as well as a passport, all of your documentation, not to mention all of the money and approval from your University. But just to let you know, most universities require you to be a junior (sometimes a sophomore) before you can study abroad. Because your school is responsible for managing the credits, you will have to talk to them about what your options are. Otherwise you will go on a long, costly, worthless vacation.

Question by Down Under Guy: Translating UK MBA degree to US academic system?
My partner has an MBA (with distinction) from a UK-based university that has been AACSB and AMBA accredited.

He wishes to apply for an adjunct teaching position in a US university and wondered whether his degree would be considered disfavourably because it is not from the US.

Additionally, while he did a disssertation, we realized that the US MBA programs generally do not require theses or dissertations … In fact, the dissertations appear to be normally done at the doctoral level.

How would his degree be rated if a conversion were done?

Who are the best people from whom a conversion could be done?

Best answer:

Answer by baby joker
i dont really know. i have some professors with degrees from india, china, japan, canada, mexico.

Question by Jason: What study abroad location looks best on a resume?
I am currently entering my junior year in college as a dual major in criminal justice and fire science and Im hoping to work in federal law enforcement (FBI, ICE, ATF) after I graduate from school in two years. That being said, I am currently in the process of selecting a study abroad destination for the spring semester of 2011. My question is, what study abroad location would look best on a resume when I eventually apply to agencies?

Best answer:

Answer by DZ
Well if you are studying a foreign language as well I would pick somewhere you can use your language. Since you want to work for an agency if you can speak more than one language it is a MAJOR bonus. Studying abroad shows that you can go to another country that has a different lifestyle and culture than yours. By being able to study and pass your classes in a foreign environment it looks good regardless as it shows adaptability. This is a very good skill to have, believe me when your realize that a lot of people cant handle more than a week in a foreign country and even then they cling to the comforts of home. Less than 2% of students in the U.S study abroad. It’s just gonna look good regardless.

Things to consider.
1. Language- Are you studying one? Do you wanna learn one?
2. Cost- I’m not sure if your paying for it yourself or not but its something to consider.
3. What do you want to get out of experience?

I chose Thailand because it was drastically different than anything I have ever experienced. I wanted something that was challenging and would allow me to grow as a human being as well as education.

If I go, I will be 16 when I study in Brazil. My school doesn’t allow people to study abroad during the school year, but I would like to have the experience of staying in Brazil with a host family. Therefore, I would most likely go in the summertime. However, their summer vacation in in our winter, and they are in school for our summer? How would this arrangement work out? Would I just go to school with the children of the host family in the summer as well? Any programs you know of that do this would be great. Thanks!
